Overview
Not everyone wants to spend their retirement years sitting around and watching reruns of old television programs day after day. Where are all the people who want to really embrace their golden years for everything they’re worth? If you are looking for a more active and vibrant lifestyle, look no further than Brookdale The Heights, an assisted living and memory care community in Houston, Texas.
One of the first things residents notice about life here is that our team handles the household chores. We’ll plan and prepare healthy and delicious meals, sweep and mop the floors, pull all the weeds and maintain the property to keep it in tip-top shape. We can even provide light housekeeping and laundry services.
With all your free time, you can join programs and activities from our campus recreational calendar. Assisted living residents often enjoy participating in events like:
-
Daily exercise classes
-
Bingo games
-
Flex Your Brain challenges
-
Devotional services
-
Movie nights
We even have hobby clubs for people who enjoy walking, gardening and books.
And our memory care residents have an equally satisfying calendar of events. The primary difference is that we design each of their activities to inspire meaning, purpose and belonging while helping them maintain their current skills for as long as possible. We’ll even be there to provide gentle guidance and visual reminders along the way as they enjoy things like:
-
Gentle exercise classes
-
Watercolor classes
-
Cornhole competitions
-
Live musical performances
-
Soothing hand massages
You can choose from a variety of floor plans when it comes time to select an apartment, but rest easy knowing that each one offers large windows with plenty of natural light and space for your favorite belongings. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be alerted to an emergency, but we’re also available to offer assistance with daily living tasks like bathing, dressing, managing medication and coordinating with outside healthcare providers. My grandma has been a resident here for about six months or so now. She moved here after being kicked out of a hospice facility for being to active, and kicked out the hospital for being to needy. I have visited her here a few times and the facility has been quite and well kept everytime. I have seen a few of the staff members but didn't interact with them to leave a review on service. But the facility itself is really nice. Each resident has their own room with bathroom, bed, closet, fridge, tv, and microwave. There are two common areas for residents to interact, one downstairs and one upstairs. Kitchen and coffee area are onsite as well.

My sister moved into assisted living several years ago, and then to memory care last year. Her care has been, and is, loving and attentive. Shunte’ Kindle and staff in memory care treat Jennifer as if she is family, attending to her very specific disabilities as well as her delicate emotional health. I trust them and feel so much gratitude for their professional services. To say that this life situation is challenging is an understatement. But to know that my dear sister is loved and cared for is priceless.

I feel like reviews have been taken down that are bad for this location. We’ve been here about 8 months now and seen the care go downhill over time. The facts are you pay to have your family member cared for and that is not happening when it comes to bathing, communication, and treatments. Communication is highly lacking between the staff members and families and that causes days of delays for changes to medical issues. The care isn’t even meh for the most part. We’ve heard other family members complaining about the lack of care over the past couple of weeks too around showering and medications when we visit. One man very loudly stated “my mother hasn’t been bathed in over a week and a half”. Food is good, staff is ok and nice just inattentive to issues. Condition of rooms is fine. The lack of attentiveness though to the elderly is very concerning for what they say they are doing.

We moved my father-in-law to Brookdale The Heights in May 2024. This place came highly recommended by my wife's friend, whose Dad had also lived there in the recent past. We found it to be one of the best options for us considering their location (within Loop 610) and with the various facilities and support staff that were needed. Their cost structure was one of the more reasonable ones that we were able to find as well. We genuinely appreciated the interactions with the Executive Director (Betsy Wilking) and several others during our father's time there. Unfortunately, our Dad passed away suddenly in November 2024 after only 6 months at Brookdale. Betsy was fantastic to work with in all aspects of our father's time there. She went above and beyond in working with us on various financial details with Elderlife Financial who had arranged for a bridge loan against our father's condo until we could arrange to sell it. As assisted living facilities go - the best parts about Brookdale The Heights were: 1) It wasn't overcrowded. 2) It was kept clean and it didn't have a bad odor. 3) There was a separate memory care facility on-site. 4) There was a medical person on staff and on-site. 5) If there were issues - we could reach key people as needed. 6) The staff came across as genuinely concerned about residents' needs. Many thanks!
