Finding the right care for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia can be difficult. At Brookdale Shawnee, we strive to make that decision easier. From specialty-trained staff to our research-backed program designed to preserve identity, promote a sense of belonging, and strengthen current skills, our memory care community is designed from the ground up with our seniors' best interests in mind. You'll find our campus nestled in Shawnee, Kansas, just a short walk from Gum Springs Park and nearby shopping and restaurants.
Your loved one will receive gentle encouragement and reminders throughout the day and also be provided a structured daily path of engagement. This path includes activities that are designed to help preserve a sense of self while strengthening current skills. This includes activities like morning mental workouts, walking groups, clustered group discussions, music therapy, and more.
Alongside our daily path, your loved one will have the opportunity to socialize as much or as little as they please. We plan a robust events calendar with several activities each day, like:

Everyone needs their own personal space that they can call home. You'll have a choice of floor plans, and each pet-friendly apartment comes equipped with a private bathroom, spacious closets, and windows that let in plenty of natural light. We also encourage residents to personalize their apartments with their favorite furnishing, family photos, and treasured mementos so they feel right at home.
With memory care, your loved one will receive the breadth and depth of support they need to flourish. All plans are personalized based on your loved one's needs, and we're ready to help with day-to-day tasks like grooming, dressing, medication management, getting around campus, and dining assistance if needed.
We also understand that safety is important, which is why we've outfitted our campus with security measures like keypad entries on rooms. You'll also find comfort in knowing that we have care staff on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to be alerted to an emergency.

Ever since my mom moved into Brookdale Shawnee, she has had all the care she needs. The beginning was rough, as it is for everyone making that large of a life change, and they helped mom AND us through that time. I no longer have to worry about the care that mom needs as I have full confidence in staff and community of Brookdale Shawnee.

We love Brookdale Shawnee for our mother. The workers genuinely care and engage with the residents. The dining area is always very clean & the Food is delicious. The apartment is perfect size and always kept clean. We moved our mother into another facility before Brookdale and found a very different surrounding and feel extremely lucky/blessed to have found this place. 5-Stars from our family.

My parents and their cat have been residents at Brookdale Shawnee since March of 2018. It was difficult for me to come to the realization that they needed more help than I could give. The staff was very caring, understanding and helpful throughout the process. Mom, Dad and the cat have settled in well. The staff is wonderful, making sure they are checked on and assisted as needed. Meal reminders, nice dining rooms, activities throughout the day, hairdresser and musicians who come to entertain. (I’ve seen nail polish on mom more now than while I was growing up. She likes to show me the colors she picks out.). Occasionally I pick up mom and dad for church, and when I arrive, they are all ready to go. The associates even do moms hair all cute. I can tell they care for the residents by the way they interact with them and take care of them. They have had outings such as a drive in the country, going to an apple orchard to squeeze apples for cider, and going to grade schools to listen to children practice reading (mom and dad were very excited to tell me about this!). The staff is very good at communication and in keeping me updated on my parents; and they are available when I call or email. I am very lucky we found Brookdale Shawnee.

Brookdale Shawnee has been an ideal place for my mother. She can be challenging but they have stepped up many times to make accommodations for her. Great experience for mom for almost two years.
