Please, if your loved one has dementia, keep them from this place! Our mother (last year) had to stop living independently. We made BROOKDALE at Salisbury one of our finalists for Moms placement. Everyone was so very nice and interested during the “courting” process. They assured us that they were well staffed and equipped to handle “moderate level” memory care patients. Their OWN Assessor labeled our Mom as such. We gave them our vote of confidence and placed our loved one in their care! There was an immediate change in tone! Not so caring anymore, additional costs all the time. After one month we were told we had to have someone sit with her around the clock IN THEIR FACILITY! Food service was suspect. No assistance (as we were promised) with personal care and hygiene. Now, the once very friendly management was either no where to be seen or agitated at the very thought of talking with us. As a result, we had to find a full Memory care unit for Mom and the drain on her finances was significantly worse than it had to be. Please, please think carefully about placing your loved one here if they are, at any stage, a dementia patient! Thank you for reading my thoughts.

The team at Brookdale Salisbury are among the most professional I've encountered. This community has be a foundation in the Salisbury area for years. The building is always well maintained and the staff provide warm, safe, compassionate care to the residents.

My Father has been at Brookdale Salisbury for a little over two years now. The staff are so amazing with all the residents and their families. I feel good knowing that Daddy is in a good, healthy environment. I know he is getting all of his medications on time, every day. I know he is eating well balanced meals every day. He is getting help with his baths and dressing, so he does not fall. I am so glad that we found Brookdale Salisbury. I cannot thank them enough for taking excellent care of my Daddy.

I hate writing bad reviews, especially knowing it may effect the people who are doing the best they can, but I don’t feel right not warning other people of our experience at Brookdale Salisbury. All the great reviews from 2+ years ago were written about different management. Apparently management changed and things have gone downhill ever since. One positive thing I’ll say is the nurses truly did seem to care and do their best (they are the only reason this place gets two stars instead of one). However, they are massively understaffed and can only do so much spread as thin as they are with unsupportive, chaotic management. The only other compliment I have for this place is the fact it wasn’t filthy. We had a pretty decent experience with management up until contracts were signed. Everyone was so willing to help and then when they had our money, things slowly started to change. The onboarding process was stressful, unnecessarily complicated, and unorganized. You know things are bad when you’re looking at other options the day after moving in. Communication between administrative staff was straight up awful, leading to lots of headache and mistakes to micromanage. It might’ve been forgivable if they were capable of taking ownership for the mistakes, but of course, everything was somehow our fault even though our subsequent move to a different facility (that had logical, organized systems of communication) went near flawlessly. The head nurse seemed determined to make everything as complicated as possible. She didn’t give a rip about the family and what we know of our dad; if it wasn’t spoken and signed by her doctors, it was as good as dirt. The doctors they used were terrible as well, claiming my dad had “no signs of cognitive decline” after 5 minute tests where they would give him ‘hints’ the entire time (he received a late stage dementia diagnosis by another doctor right after we left Brookdale). They just wanted to put him on antipsychotics and call it good. There were several cases of straight up negligence that we were told by management would be “investigated”, and of course, we never heard a word about it again even when we attempted to follow up. My dad’s wellbeing continued to deteriorate at Brookdale Salisbury, and I’m just so thankful we got him out of there. He’s improved drastically since leaving, and my and my sisters’ lives have drastically improved as well now that we don’t have to micromanage the people taking care of him. My oldest sister’s (my father’s POA) hair fell out from the stress she went through trying to ensure proper care at Brookdale Salisbury. Now, after two and a half months elsewhere, her hair is growing back. I could go on much longer about the details of our experience, but I’ll leave it there. If my review can help save even one family from the hell we experienced here, I’ll be happy. Do not trust your loved ones with Brookdale Salisbury.
