The care staff do a very good job and care for the residence. But that’s where the good ends. My mother was a resident here for six years. From the beginning things were bad. Within the first week of her, moving in the diamond had been taken out of her wedding ring. The administration attempted to request specific medication from her doctor without speaking to me, and the doctor refused, saying the medication was dangerous to her health and was often used for “chemical restraint“. As my mom‘s money vanished over the next couple of years and we applied for Medicare Brookdale retroactively increased the payments due for the previous three months that had been paid in full. There’s an amount to several thousand dollars and they told me if I did not pay that in full. They would not accept Medicare payments. They told me they would evict my mother, and if I had a problem, I could speak to their lawyers. Communication is absolutely terrible. Several times my mother fell and I was not called. They have a habit of calling from multiple personnel cell phones that come up as either spam or unknown callers, and get shunted off to voicemail. I had to speak to the administrator multiple times over the poor communication. The last time she fell, nobody knew she had fallen for at least 12 hours when they noticed she was in pain. They’re much vaunted system that is supposed to detect falls. Did not detect her fall only recording after she was already on the floor. Finally, on January 1 of this year 2026 there was a flu outbreak. Emails went out hidden behind subject lines of “happy new year”. Most people delete all of these happy new year emails from businesses and banks and so on without reading them. As did I and several other people. Several lines into the email there was a notice. There was a flu outbreak with four confirmed cases… However, they declined to do any Ian house testing. My mother was having more and more difficulty without me being even aware. Staff repeatedly asked administration to call me and they refused. Finally, on January 7, they called me when she had developed an infection and swelling on her neck. At that time I was told the doctor would not respond, but I could come and take her to the hospital if I wished. This was January 7. It was cold and raining. I insisted they call the Doctor Who could then decide whether she needed to be seen at the hospital. Shortly after she was transported to the hospital. The administrator assured me she did not have the flu… However, immediately upon arrival at the hospital, they tested, and she was positive for the flu and pneumonia and an infection to a gland in her neck. By this time, she was so sick that she passed two weeks later there was nothing they could do. There were four people on hospice in Brookdale the first week of January. When she passed, I was treated like a pariah. I was urged to get everything out of her room as quickly as possible. If you care for your loved one, I would urge you not to consider Brookdale

I just attended a holiday dinner at Brookdale South with my brother who has lived there for two years. I was very impressed how beautifully everything was decorated and how attentive the staff was to all the residents and their guests. It certainly shows they enjoy planning events for residents to enjoy! Thanks for all you do for your residents!

Brookdale South in Puyallup Washington is an excellent Senior Living facility. My mother has lived at Brookdale for 5+ years and she loves the staff, food and is pleased with the facility. Prior to living at Brookdale my mother was at a senior care facility in Enumclaw and it was terrible. My mother complained about the food, the staff and how she was treated. My family took Mom out of the facility in Enumclaw and moved her to Brookdale. Mom loves Brookdale and so does my family. Brookdale South is a premier senior care facility and I would recommend Brookdale South to anyone looking for senior care.
