Brookdale truly goes above and beyond. The staff is compassionate, attentive, and highly professional, and it’s clear they take pride in the care they provide. Communication with residents and families is timely and transparent, which makes a huge difference during what can be a stressful time. The nursing team is knowledgeable and responsive, and support staff are always willing to help. The facility itself is clean, well-organized, and welcoming. Most importantly, residents are treated with dignity and respect, and their individual needs are genuinely prioritized. I would confidently recommend this skilled nursing facility to anyone looking for quality care and a team that truly cares.

Zero Stars The Brookdale experience was beyond traumatic for our loved one and all of those who love her. Our loved one arrived at Brookdale from a brief hospital stay at St. Luke’s for a fall. During the stay, our family observed serious and ongoing failures in basic care, hygiene, safety, and medication management. We observed that the facility was understaffed. Our family was shocked by the level of care received. It was overwhelming trying to get the support required. During the stay friends and loved ones frequently had to bathe her, change her briefs, wash her hands, change her clothing, brush her hair, brush her teeth, feed her, and get her water because these needs and others were not being consistently met. She was bedridden and often left in soiled briefs, soiled bedding, and soiled clothing, not repositioned properly. And she was not adequately fed or hydrated. And laundry was not consistently maintained. Her room was frequently unsanitary, and we eventually brought our own cleaning supplies to clean it ourselves. Brookdale staff used her bed tray (intended for her beverages, meals etc ) as her potty changing station. It was disgusting and no matter what we said they continued to use it. Our loved one was either under medicated, over medicated, or given risky medications, that based on current health conditions seemed inappropriate. And a long-standing prescription she had taken for over 25 years was withheld despite her telling them her current medications, and despite her advocates/ family sharing all of her daily medications. Due to this medication being omitted she suffered for around 5 days with seizures from the withdrawal. After an abrupt and possibly inappropriate discharge, she was hospitalized for 17 days and placed in quarantine. She was diagnosed with C. diff, a UTI, malnutrition, dehydration and significant weight loss. She also had new injuries including a broken toe, bruising, cuts, cellulitis, and bedsores. During her stay no fall-risk mat was provided despite her being an extreme fall risk and despite our repeated requests for additional fall risk safety measures to be put in place. We also observed concerns with physical and occupational therapy. Despite the doctors at St. Luke’s stating medical instructions that activities were to be performed only as tolerated due to her condition, she was repeatedly told to participate in activities that appeared beyond her physical ability at the time or she’d be discharged. This caused her visible distress and extreme pain. And as shared, during her stay at Brookdale she was receiving multiple medications, including muscle relaxers, benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, and painkillers. During therapy sessions, she appeared heavily sedated and physically unable to safely participate, which raised significant concerns for our family. During intake Brookdale was informed that she had a pre-existing mobility condition that required braces for safe mobility. They said they couldn’t not provide the support. She left Brookdale without using the braces. We believe the social worker, Director of Nursing and Director of the Facility ignored our pleas on many fronts. Our loved one’s experience was deeply distressing. In our opinion, this facility was not equipped to provide the level of care it accepted payment for. Our interactions with the social worker, Director of Nursing, and facility leadership were deeply disappointing. Concerns were repeatedly raised, yet we did not experience effective advocacy, accountability, or resolution. Families should proceed with extreme caution and remain constantly involved if considering this facility. If this is truly your only option we would recommend you stay with your loved on 24/7 and document everything. Our loved one left Brookdale in far worse condition than when she arrived and required additional rehab and respite care afterward costing her money and months away from home. For the above reasons and many not shared on this review we cannot recommend Brookdale to anyone.

Mom likes the food and especially the music and bingo at Brookdale Overland Park. A special shout of appreciation to Heather at the front desk and Sarah and Virginia at the skilled nurses station. Karen, the activity coordinator makes sure to include all and takes the time to get to know the interests and background of the residents. They are all friendly, caring and responsible.
