Overview

Just because your loved one is living with Alzheimer’s or dementia doesn’t mean they can’t live a fulfilling life. They deserve to enjoy a meaningful and purposeful life, surrounded by kind care associates who are trained to provide top-notch quality care. If it sounds too good to be true, we have good news.

Brookdale Mandarin Central is a memory care community in Jacksonville, Florida, that can offer your loved one all of that — and so much more. From the moment you arrive, you’ll see what we mean. From a comfortable and shaded porch to the spacious common rooms and friendly team members, we think you’ll understand why so many of our residents are happy to be here.

If your loved one lives here, they’ll participate in our Clare Bridge memory care program. After waking up in their very own comfortable and sunny apartment, our team will offer gentle guidance and reminders over the course of six planned activities. The activities change from day to day, but here are some of the most popular activities that our residents enjoy:

  • Walking clubs

  • Bingo tournaments

  • Brain games

  • Craft classes

  • Cooking demonstrations

  • Corn hole competitions

  • Fitness classes

  • Movie nights

  • Happy hour socials

  • Scenic drives

  • Music clubs

We like to think it’s an impressive list — and that’s not even half of it. Your loved one will also have the chance to get to know other residents in their peer group with similar abilities and skills, which can help them feel a deep sense of belonging, purpose and appreciation.

While they’re here working on their skills and enjoying time with new friends, you can rest easy knowing they are safe and sound in their new home. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency, so you don’t have to fret over what would happen in a crisis. We’re also more than happy to offer assistance with things like bathing, dressing, managing medication and coordinating with outside healthcare providers.

My mother was a resident at Brookdale Mandarin Central for just over one year. She had dementia and needed help with medications. The place was okay most everyone was friendly but the issue that I had was that the AC in her room never functioned properly did not really put out cold air. Did complain about it they never really fixed the issue. Also the water in her kitchen area was a big problem as well that was never really fixed either. Other issues that I had was that they required us to provided them with gift cards for her to go on the bus for outings. They said it was for when they went to eat that they would use the gift card to pay, well that was not true as they did not take her out to eat for lunch and if they did she paid on her own Credit card. She did go the library and out for shopping and I think that they charged her for the bus rides! So, just to let everyone know be prepared for them to ask you to purchase gift cards for your love ones and make sure it goes to where they say as I did not see that. Other things is with dementia they lose their appetite as they start to lose weight. I think that they need to be more aware of the eating habits of their residents and follow up with family! They did not do this and she passed away just recently from not eating. I think if they would have informed us could have gotten her some appetite stimulant and she might have lived a little longer.

The staff at Brookdale have been absolutely wonderful in caring for my grandmother. They go above and beyond to make sure she feels safe, comfortable, and respected every day. The team is patient, attentive, and truly takes the time to connect with her, which gives our whole family peace of mind. It’s clear they genuinely care about the residents, and we’re so grateful to have her in such a supportive environment.

When my mom was diagnosed with Dementia we struggled for almost a year to care for her ourselves. We were failing and mom’s health was steadily declining. Once she moved into Brookdale we were no longer worried. Her health improved and she regained her purpose. The staff makes Brookdale feel like a home. They are attentive, engaging, and truly care. They know the details of every resident and always provide continuous updates. The family support meetings have helped educate us on how to be supportive care advocates. We also love the family nights where we get to join in on all of the fun! I highly recommend Brookdale Mandarin Central to anyone who is looking for the highest quality care for their loved one. —Catherine Penrod

After my mom was diagnosed with early stage dementia, we had to make some very quick decisions regarding placement. While you always tend to second-guess your decision, I now know in my heart that we made the best decision by placing my mom at Brookdale Mandarin Central. The facility itself feels warm and has a very home-like feeling that, I think, gives residents a feeling of security. But the best thing about Brookdale Mandarin Central is the people that work there. They approach their jobs with a cheerfulness and warm heart that is not easy to fake. Dealing with dementia patients is not easy and it's definitely not for everyone. I am truly grateful that we found this facility. My mom has been living at Brookdale Mandarin Central for about 2 1/2 years now and I still can't say enough good things about the care she receives. The employees are all extremely empathetic and compassionate and I am still very grateful that there are people in this world willing to work with patients that can be somewhat challenging at times. Caring for a loved one with dementia at home can be extremely difficult. If you're at your wits' end and don't know what to do, Brookdale Mandarin Central may be exactly the respite you're seeking!
