Before deciding whether this facility is the right fit for your loved one, I encourage you to carefully research the level of care and staffing provided. My mother stayed here for a little over a month after an injury left her with severe pain and limited mobility, and our experience did not match the level of support we expected. During her one month and one week stay, we encountered repeated concerns with response times and consistency of care, particularly during second shift. There were often only two caregivers available, and staff appeared overwhelmed and rushed. My mother sometimes waited long periods for assistance, including one occasion where a call request went unanswered for 6 hours. Meals were occasionally left out of her reach if she was asleep, and one weekend she was left in the same nightgown from Friday through Sunday. As my mother’s condition worsened, hospice was recommended and additional services such as medication management and grooming assistance were added to her care plan, significantly increasing her monthly cost. At the time, I agreed because I believed it would ensure she received the additional help she needed. One interaction my mother had especially concerned me. After my mother used the call button a couple times while in pain, a staff member spoke to her in a way that left her feeling uncomfortable and hesitant to ask for help afterward. From that point on, she became anxious about requesting assistance during evening shifts and I came every night to help her instead. Her hospice nurse later advised that a smaller personal care home may be better suited to her needs, and we quickly decided to move her. Since relocating, my mother has done much better in an environment with more individualized attention and support. Because of the circumstances surrounding her move, I requested consideration for a reduced 14-day notice period rather than the standard 30 days and also asked whether any portion of the $2,000 community fee could be reconsidered given how briefly she stayed. Both requests were denied. Additionally, after authorization for automatic withdrawals had been revoked, there was still an attempted withdrawal related to the final invoice, requiring me to place a stop payment through the bank. I recognize caregiving is difficult work and that many staff members are likely doing their best under demanding conditions. However, based on our experience, I did not feel this facility could consistently provide the level of attention and responsiveness my mother required at that time. Families considering placement here should ask detailed questions about staffing levels, response times, and how higher-needs residents are supported. Not everyone has someone to advocate for them the way I could for my mother.

My wife has been at Brookdale Jones Maltsberger for three years. She has friends, activities, interests and a much higher level of care than I could provide at home. The management team is hands on, professional, accessible and responsive to my questions and concerns. The staff treats my wife with respect and patience. While Brookdale is a smaller facility, it is part of a national corporation. It has the people and resources available to it to deal with problems like the corona virus. It is big enough to provide professional care and small enough to be like family.

Brookdale Maltsberger was the absolute perfect place for my mother. We were facing the very difficult decision of where she should go after it became clear that she could no longer live alone. Shillon Boone came up with an innovative solution for us, and we moved her in. In the approximately six months that my mother was there, we found the facility to be very clean, and the staff to be very friendly and caring. We never had a problem. I most highly recommend Brookdale Maltsberger.
