Brookdale Federal Way Reviews

Oh gosh, leaving a bad review of a company is so against my nature but I need to make sure no one else is scammed and mistreated the way we were and I wish we could have had forewarning. Whatever you do, do NOT send your loved ones here. They scammed my aging aunt out of exorbitant amounts of money with erroneous charges, including nine months of a purported 2-person lift to get her around that was never utilized (they only ever used one), subtracting money for their third party prescription company Omnicare they then pocketed and did not pay Omnicare. In total, they stole just under $13,000 my mother has been working the equivalent of a part-time job trying to get back in the year since my aunt passed. It’s to the point where we will be pursuing legal action.

If you send your family here, please be an advocate and make sure that the staff are taking care of them and treating them fairly and legally. My grandmother lived here a few years ago and the experience was horrible to say the least. I really didn't want to write this review because I am a somewhat passive person but the treatment they showed my grandmother towards the end of her stay there was downright dehumanizing. She moved out in 2021 when we were under a Federal Eviction moratorium. My grandmother was rushed to the hospital as she had developed gout in her feet and couldn't move (this was towards the end of October). The EMT staff were so appalled at her living conditions and the fact that she had been sitting in a wet adult diaper for days. My grandmother was in the hospital for about 2 weeks and as a result had not been in to pay her rent. I got a call that she would need to go to a rehab center and the director of Brookdale at the time (I believe his name was TJ) called me and said my grandmother had 24 hours to pack her stuff and get out. I called out of work and had 3 friends come and help me pack her belongings. In the middle of packing TJ and the front office receptionist Bing, came to the door and told me that my grandmother hadn't paid her rent and that if we didn't pay it right then that we had to leave and that they would hire a crew to come dispose of her belongings and charge the bill to my grandmother. Keep in mind that this was around November 4 and that they told us she had to be out within 24 hours but that she also owed rent for the entire month? Also keep in mind that we were under an eviction moratorium and Brookdale was essentially trying to both hold my grandmother's belongings hostage and illegally evict her while in hospital due to a lack of care by their staff. I write this review to say that I know it can be a lot of pressure to put your family away and sometimes we are desperate. But please advocate for your family members and if you send them here, make sure that you are checking in on them and fact checking everything that the staff says to you. What they tried to do to my grandmother was very illegal and I wish I had called the attorney general back then.

The staff there is amazing. They take so good care of my mom. We were sad when mom had to be in a rehab. But the good news is she so much better and she gets to return back to Brookdale. Steve the director truly cares for his patience and staff. We are so blessed that we are able to have mom in a safe environment with people who cares.

I would never recommend this place for any senior. The most unorganized and absolutely no compassion. I really should've had my mom who suffers with dementia put in an adult family home. We just moved her out after almost 5 years and I had complained numerous times. They were getting paid for assisted showers, getting her dressed, and cleaning here apartment. None of those things happened on a regular basis. Just lazy employees that don't do there job. She always had dirty diapers everywhere in her room she had urine on her bathroom floor bugs from food she brought in. There is absolutely no supervision at this residence. Not to mention her hair was matted and one big dread lock due to washing her hair in a ponytail for not sure how long. They definitely don't tell you when the disease is progressing and it's time to move them. They should be shut down. It seems like all the facilities that take state assistance are horrible. Just very sad!
