My aunt moved into Brookdale anticipating a community providing good food, outings, activities, and new friends to share experiences. Instead, within the first week she contracted COVID and was quarantined for one week. The quarantine meant her three daily meals were delivered to her room. The food delivery food was cold and inconsistent, such that one day she received in the evening all of her three daily meals - breakfast, lunch, and dinner - at one time, cold and inedible. She experienced fire alarms in the middle of the night, where she was stranded on the 11th floor outside an elevator, without a means of taking the stairs and without direction from the staff (even though intercom systems are located on each floor for administrative announcements). Eventually, a private aide to one of the other residents called the fire department, who remained on the line and helped the residents with an explanation and guidance. Several times we've tried to get clarity from administration, but it appears the facility is very understaffed. Two temporary directors have been at the helm over the last month and a half. Neither have returned our phone calls. Two hurricanes - Helene and Milton - hit Tampa Bay and both times the facility evacuated to Central Florida. This last hurricane brought damage to the Brookdale Tampa facility with a large, downed tree, a broken elevator (now just one is operative to floors 4-12, and window seals in over 40 units damaged due by hurricane winds and rain. Luck would have it that our family member had a unit with broken seals in the bedroom and living room windows. The facility temporarily fixed the window issue by removing the surrounding wet drywall, treating with a chemical, and covering the area with large black plastic and duct tape. My aunt returned to her unit for only two hours before she began experiencing respiratory problems from the chemicals and returned to our home. We are sorely disappointed in Brookdale. It seems they need to better fund the administrative team and better train the staff to care for these vulnerable residents.

The organization; friendliness; creativity; excellent staff; medical support; well maintained; & gorgeous view of the Bay from my room; & so much more. The front desk is very busy with most capable managers at the helm. Our dining room is surrounded by windows, looking over the Bay. The kitchen & servers are so helpful. I think the food is well-balanced for seniors. We are very fortunate to have such caring caretakers who take time to understand our needs. I have only praises for this community.
