Bickford of West Lansing

We will see if this review stays and doesn't get deleted. My mother moved to The Bickford of West Lansing in November 2025. We have moved her to another facility this month as the Bickford is horrible. Starting with the outside of the facility - The sign is falling apart, states a different facility name, and the replacement or fix is a Bickford sign on top of it that is tattered. Staff shortages and treatment of staff are huge concerns. The staff that are there are so wonderful and treated mom like she was their own family and we adored them. Management/Director doesn't seem to care much and stares blankly when you talk to her. Her employees complained about her right and left. The food is horrible. Portions are so small and made like mush. I understand that elderly have specific needs in their diet, but it was unbelievable how horrible it was. The building is outdate and all floors (other than dining) have carpet. It's old and smells horrible. Stained and furniture in the lobby area is filthy. Went for months with no activities, maintenance, nurse, short staffed, etc and still paid the full price. One month they even took an additional $7000 out of my mothers bank account. When we finally left, they stated I owed them 6 cents. Wanted payment for it. Ridiculous. No organization, no one knows what is going on, when you ask the director she says she doesn't know. I've contacted Corporate (after searching and searching how to contact them) and received a call back which I returned and they never called again. Steer clear of the Bickford in West Lansing.

Even in my first month at Bickford, I’ve felt incredibly welcomed and supported by the entire team. Everyone works together to make sure residents receive the best care possible, and you can truly see the compassion staff have for both the residents and each other.

I moved my mother to the West Lansing location in November 2025. The caregivers that work there are amazing and treated my mom with so much love as if she was their own mother at times. But that is the only good thing I have to say about the Bickford. The communication of the facility is horrible and there were no activities for months, the food is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen let alone taste. The building is filthy. They are understaffed and you can’t get help for anything that you need. One month they even charged my mom $7000 more than what she owed and tried to make excuses that she was at a different level of care that she never was. It’s very sad that the director Is very expressionless and snotty when you talk to her. I’ve talked to many of the staff members and residents who just absolutely cannot stand her and won’t say anything out of fear and the dynamic of that building is so sad. I can’t imagine how she treats the residents when I see how she treats her employees. My mom even asked her on several occasions where certain events were, and she just said she didn’t know and there was nobody there to help my mother.We made many friends in the few months that we were there, but have moved Mom to another facility that is simply amazing. I feel sorry for the people that still have to work there, but I love them all for continuing to work as hard as they do under all of the conditions and circumstances that they have to deal with. Don’t even think about trying to call corporate because you can’t get anybody to return a call. I did have someone return a call to me and left me a voicemail and when I returned her call, I still to this day have not heard back from her again. And the local resident and family complaint line doesn’t do you any good either because they don’t handle everything but no one else does. If I knew anything about this place before moving my mom there, I never would’ve made the move. I could go on and on about our experience in the few short months we were there.

Bickford of West Lansing is simply wonderful! The staff are incredibly attentive and genuinely care about each resident’s happiness and well-being. The community is vibrant, clean, and full of thoughtful programs that keep everyone engaged and active. I’m so impressed with how much attention they give to creating a nurturing, supportive, and fun environment. It’s a place where residents are not just cared for, but celebrated every day!
