I had a wonderful experience at Benedictine with Lisa Kern, their Director. I shared stories of the many ways that the staff at Benedictine assist our loved ones not just through their daily duties but their uplifting smiles and conversations. Benedictine Living Community-Owatonna, formerly known as Koda Living Community, beckoned, and little did I know that this visit would unfold like a heartwarming story. As I pushed open the door, I was immediately enveloped by the cozy embrace of twinkling lights and the sweet melodies of carols that filled the air. It was as if I had stepped into a holiday wonderland. The holiday season has a unique way of revealing our deepest heartfelt concerns, especially when it comes to the well-being of our loved ones. It's during these chilly months that we often realize just how much care our cherished family members truly need—care that we, no matter how well-intentioned, can't always provide ourselves. Many of us tend to put off exploring senior care and living options until after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. But what I discovered at Benedictine was truly heartwarming. Visiting during this festive season can bring immeasurable joy to our beloved seniors. The entire community was adorned with beautiful decorations, from the large Christmas tree in the foyer to the cozy common areas. We had a wonderful experience while my Grandma was here. She entered the rehab side but after an unexpected health issue, she was put on hospice. The nurses and aides were all so attentive and caring to her and to all of us.

Very friendly staff but it seemed as though the facility lacks enough employees to care for low functioning people at the level I have seen in other nursing homes. The food is commercial cafeteria quality for the most part and anyone who can't feed themselves gets to sit at the table and stare at their plate until staff gets around to them. It doesn't inspire much confidence to know that caregivers are constantly moving from one client to the next just barely keeping up, however, I would say that Koda is better than 2 of the 3 nursing homes my family has lived in over the past several years.
