This is assisted living technically, but with a memory care license, so it's been perfect for our 91 year old father. He enjoys having his own belongings/furniture in his room. Also, he enjoys meals with his new buddies. The nurses are very caring. I think Dad has "won them over"😁

Standard facility on the outside but what is inside makes All The Difference! The people who work at Brookdale Monterey are so compassionate, not only to the residents, but the families making these hard decisions and transitions. Spacious & clean rooms and dining areas. Thoughtful 'memory stations' and an Activity Calendar busier than most teenager's schedules :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We have trusted two family members to the expert care of Brookdale Monterey over the last 10 years. The care team at this facility is beyond measure. They truly love their family of residents and their family members. The staff takes time to know the residents and their individual needs. The food is delicious, the nurses administer medications without flaws and the activity staff are energetic and fun! Trust your loved one to these beautiful and caring people. We have no complaints or regrets after 10 years of experience. That is extremely rare.

This is a long review based on my mine and my family’s experience with having our loved one in Brookdale’s care. If you do not want to read all of it just know that if your loved one is on oxygen and needs help in the restroom do not bring them here. It is filthy and the staff are negligent. I don’t know how this place is able to get such good reviews. My grandfather has been staying here and along with extra help from home health aids he has been receiving terrible care. He needs to be on oxygen and needs help using the restroom. His oxygen cannula has been repeatedly forgot about and not replaced when he pulls it out. I understand he cannot be watched 24/7 but every hour or so would suffice. I watched an employee act like she was fixing it and then take it out and only get one side in his nose. I had to redo it after she messed it for what seems like no reason. His blood oxygen levels have reached low 50s and his pulse has dipped as low as 25! We have found his oxygen completely off before. It also went missing once. It’s an oxygen machine my family pays for! It’s not Brookdale’s, it’s his. The least they can do is check every hour or two that his oxygen is in, on, and functioning properly. He’s always left to sit in wet diapers smelling like pee. His stuff goes missing constantly, which upon questioning why his stuff is missing the employees say other residents take it. Fair enough but we pay more than enough for his supplies, which are not included in the outrageous cost, that he should not have to wear undergarments meant for women. My toddler and I were visiting one day and he was opening drawers in the sitting area across from the front desk. I was following behind him making sure to put everything back that he touched and in one of the drawers he opened there was a moldy chicken bone. I have always been treated well by the staff and I have tried so hard these last few months to give them the benefit of the doubt but there is absolutely no reason his blood oxygen levels and pulse should have gotten so low so often. I could go on but I will be doing everything I can to report this place for neglect. I have tried contacting the office several times and they have been ignoring my calls. The few people I did talk to were either rude or not helpful. This is not okay. This place is mismanaged and does not hire or train people properly to take care of elderly patients. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the level of care he needs in our home and we were completely mislead that Brookdale Monterey was capable of providing my grandfather the care he needs.
